Siew pau

Popo loves baking and cooking. She is very patience as she will tried till she is able to bake or cook a delicious and presentable cake, dishes, pau and etc...

We loves whatever she cooks. She always share her " success" with friends, relatives and even our friends in school. When she make char siu pau, we used to bring a whole box to school, and share with our friends.

Craving for Char Siew pau, but we do not have a steamer here. We decided to bake siew pau.

After getting some tips from popo through a long distance call, I cooked char siew one day before we made Siew Pau. I used to bake after MSLS slept at night, so that I can concentrate and finished my work faster. And ES always come over to help up, this is one of her favourite activities during night time.

How to make char siew ( for 18 siew pau ) :
What you need:
300g Pork ( chopped to cube )
1/2 onion
garlic
Sesame
Cilantro ( chopped )
2 tablespoons Oyster Sauce ( I omitted this )
1 tablespoon sesame oil ( I omitted this )
2 tablespoons rice wine
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons sugar
a pinch of Black pepper
1 tablespoon of corn flour
2 tablespoons of water

What you do:
  1. Marinate pork with chopped garlic, rice wine, soy sauce, sugar, black pepper overnight.
  2. Put some oil in the pan and cook the onion till soft.
  3. Add in marinated pork.
  4. Add in corn flour ( mixed with water ), sesame and cilantro after the pork is cooked.
The next day, we made the pastry skin according to this this recipe.

As this is our first attempt of making siew pau, we finished the siew pau within 2 breakfast, consider quite a good start and the kids loves it very much.

Thanks popo for your tips!
